The opening ceremony was commenced by Dr. Idris Hadi, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Tishk International University, in which he explained the TIU system, and extended his appreciation to the organizing committee of the event, partner university, and experts who participated in the symposium. This was followed by a speech delivered by Professor Dr. Michał Szydłowski, where he introduced Gdansk University of Technology, emphasizing that both universities are willing to further collaborate and work together to improve the quality of education and international relations. Within the context of this topic, in order to discuss the current issue of the region and propose required water management solutions such as flood control, charging groundwater, water supply, and sewerage systems in the city of Erbil, Kurdistan.
The second aim of the event was to disseminate research findings and provide a platform for scholars to debate and exchange ideas about the policies and technological aspects that can be applied to water management in urban areas.
