The workshop in brief:
He workshop aimed at enlightening participants about the Kurdish nationalism and the struggles of the Kurds for self-determination and independence. Mr. Badr Muhammed Tahir served as the moderator and gave the welcome address and stated that the workshop was organized to celebrate the anniversary of the Republic of Kurdistan in Mahabad and it is in line with SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions. The workshop featured a distinguished speaker, Dr. Abubakir Ali (Karwani), a writer and politician. The Kurdistan national anthem and poetry from Qazi Muhammad, President of the Republic of Kurdistan were played. The workshop had two sessions as follows:
1st Session: Kurdish Nationalism, Historical Trajectory and Struggles of the Kurds
2nd Session: The Wider Context of the Proclamation of the Republic of Kurdistan in Mahabad

However, he largely blamed internal factors, such as lack of consensus, disunity, regionality and tribalism as being responsible for the demise of Kurdish nationalism. The workshop was attended by about 70 participants, including Tishk International University staff, students, policymakers and the media. It enabled participants to know the history and dynamics of Kurdish nationalism, challenges and the major factors responsible for the demise of Kurdish nationalism. The following recommendations were advanced:
There should be unity among the major Kurdish stakeholders and parties.
There should be consensus on major issues that affect the collective Kurdish nation and its development.
A more diplomatic approach should be adopted in engaging internal and external stakeholders towards the revival of Kurdish nationalism and self-determination.
