Peacebuilding approaches in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq
April 25, 2021

Faculty: Engineering
Department: Petroleum and Mining
Type of the workshop: National workshop
The workshop in brief:

This workshop covered the measurement of formation parameters in real-time during drilling the borehole which is commonly known as logging while drilling. Furthermore, the Techlog software was presented in detail with examples. Finally, the workshop was ended with a session about the implementation of Logging While Drilling data for reservoir characterization.

The objective of the workshop was to cover both the engineering side and geological sides of logging while drilling. In addition, it was to present the geological analysis and interpretations conducted from well logging while drilling and to analyze the engineering aspect of the operation. Moreover, it is also to demonstrate the usage of data obtained from logging in reservoir engineering studies. The presentation was enriched with examples of oil/gas wells drilled in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. There were three sessions which presented by two presenters.

Participants: More than 35 participants.

Date and time: April 22, 2021 at 13:00.
Place: Online (zoom).

Session topics:

  • First session: Logging while drilling and telemetry systems.
  • Second session: Techlog software application with examples.
  • Third session: The usage of data obtained from logging in reservoir engineering studies.

Presenters names and affiliations:

  • The first session was presented by Mr. Frzan Fraidoon Ali. He is a petroleum engineer with 7 years of experience in the oil and gas industry. He has a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in Petroleum Engineering, specializing in Reservoir Engineering. He teaches petroleum engineering modules at Knowledge University and Tishk International University.
  • The second session will be presented by Mr. Revan Akram. He is a petroleum geology lecturer at Erbil Polytechnic University and Ph.D. student of petrophysics at Salahaddin University. He has worked with Crescent Petroleum company for several years as a wellsite geologist.

Outcome of the workshop:

The learning outcome of this workshop for the participants is to be aware of the most common logging while drilling and methods for transmitting the information in real-time to the surface during drilling oil/gas wells. Furthermore, The learning outcome for the participants is to be acquainted with the most commonly used software (Techlog) and implementation of the log data for oil/gas reservoir characterizations.
