All in all, the workshop discussed the importance of controlling weight in order to prevent gastrointestinal problems and gain a healthy body in general and a healthy diet specifically. Obesity is a medical condition in which excess amount of body fat accumulates enough to increase risk of a variety of health-related problems. This is a problem that is common across the world and is prevalent, even here. It is defined by body mass index (BMI) and if the bodyweight is 20% higher than what is considered to be the norm, the person is deemed to be obese. Obesity is more common in women than in men, and it is also one of the leading causes of death worldwide. It is also worryingly increasing rapidly worldwide in adults and children. 100 staff from inside and outside TIU participated in the workshop.

It consisted of two sessions the first one titled: “Histopathology of the Upper GIT in Relation to Obesity” and the second one titled “Overweight and Obesity; Causes, Prevention and Treatment”.
