The workshop in brief:

On February 18, 2021, Civil Engineering Department at Tishk International University (TIU) organized a workshop on teaching for transformation in civil engineering department. The workshop was held in TIU Erbil campus hall 302 at 15:00. The workshop aimed to ask teachers to pay attention to use any divergence from their profession rather than to the curriculum, and make the educational institutions to construct the knowledge rather than see the profession of teaching as procedures of transferring knowledge (as a set of facts) into the mind of their students.

Participants: 20 Participants.

Place: TIU, Erbil campus, Main building, hall 302.

Session topics: 

The presentation consisted of two session:

Session 1:

  • The profession of teaching and teacher professionalism,
  • Knowledge as defined by the curriculum.

Session 2:

  • The power structure in educational institutions
  • Transformation in education and teaching
  • Discussions.

Presenters names and affiliations:

The workshop was presented by Dr. Abdurrahman Ahmad Wahab. He received his PhD. Degree in Education from the University of Toronto, Canada. His research interests are in the areas of social sciences and humanities, educational Policy, sociology of education, program evaluation, and teacher education. He is currently a faculty member of the ELT department at TIU.

Outcome of the workshop:

The workshop enabled the audience to know the profession of teaching and teacher professionalism, Knowledge as defined by the curriculum, power structure in educational institutions and the transformation in education and teaching.
