Department: Dentistry
The workshop in brief:
On February 01, 2026 – The Faculty of Dentistry at Tishk International University (TIU) successfully organizes a specialized workshop on (Biomimetics) at TIU/ Dentistry faculty. The event took place at hall 400 and attracted 40 participants, including dental professionals, faculty academic members, and students eager to enhance their expertise in restoration.
Objectives:
- Introduce biomimetic principles mimicking natural tooth stress distribution for direct composites.
- Teach stress-reducing protocols like incremental layering, soft-start curing, and flowable liners.
- Demonstrate fiber reinforcement and preheating techniques to lower contraction stress.
Participants: 62 attendees, including academic staff, alumni and 5th grade students.
Place: Faculty of Dentistry ( Ibn Sina HALL)
Session topics:
The workshop was divided into two sessions:
Theoretical part
Cover biomimetic principles, C-factor (bonded vs. unbonded surfaces), polymerization shrinkage causes/effects, and key strategies like thin increments, low-shrinkage composites, and immediate dentin sealing.
hands on part
Simulate Class II/III restorations on typodonts using dual-cure/low-stress composites and fiber reinforcement (e.g., “wallpapering” technique)
1- Dr. Patrick Calalang from USA, mentor in adhesive and biomimetic restoration.
2. Dr. Abdulla Majid from TIU/ Dentistry faculty /Pedodontics department
- Proficiency in gap-free bonding with reduced postoperative sensitivity via controlled stress management.
- Hands-on skills for durable, fracture-resistant restorations using low-shrinkage materials.
- Ability to apply minimally invasive techniques, improving clinical success over traditional methods.
