The workshop in brief:

The workshop took place on 2nd October in celebration of

World Pharmacists day with the theme (Think Health,

Think Pharmacist), emphasizing on the vital role of

pharmacists in improving health of communities. The

event aimed to empower pharmacists to contribute

actively to patient care, safety and general public health. It

focused on the current skills needed for pharmacists with

future career scopes.

Presenters names and affiliations:

1. Dr. Kamaran Kamal Ghareeb

BPharm, MSc in Public Health and Policy

Graduated from UCL (London University), 1996. Worked in

community pharmacies ranging from large chains independent

pharmacies, SME’s and locuming. Dr. Kamaran has Masters in

Public Health and Policy (2009) with a focus on developing

new services in primary health care (Community pharmacy

services).

2. Dr. Subasini Uthirapathy

Ph.D. in Pharmacology and Toxicology, Asst. Prof. TIU

Dr. Subasini holds a Ph.D. in Pharmacology and Toxicology

from SASTRA University, India. Dr. Subasini has served as In-

Charge of the Drug Testing Laboratory sponsored by AYUSH,

Government of India, and has successfully led several research

projects funded by the Department of Science and Technology,

India, as well as TIU, Erbil.

3. Dr. Alan Riyadh Mohammad

MSc in Clinical Pharmacy, Asst. Lecturer, TIU

Outcome of the workshop:

– Understand the vital roles of pharmacists in

healthcare

– Be familiar with the past, current and future

possible roles for pharmacists

– Inspire the next generation of pharmacists to foster

awareness, advocate and lead in healthcare
