The workshop in brief:

The Departments of Banking and Finance, and Accounting hosted a national workshop titled “Financial Management of NGOs: The Essentials for Sustainable Success” on Wednesday, December 4, 2025. The workshop was led by Mr. Rohat Zada, Lecturer of Accounting and Finance at Tishk International University and Catholic University of Erbil, and a financial management consultant. The session focused on essential NGO financial management practices, including donor-compliant accounting, budgeting approaches, financial reporting, and internal controls. An interactive discussion and case study analysis enabled participants to examine real financial challenges faced by NGOs. The workshop concluded with a certificate of appreciation presented to the speaker. The main objectives of the workshop were to:

  • Enhance participants’ knowledge of financial management principles specific to NGOs.
  • Familiarize attendees with donor requirements and compliance standards, particularly those of international donors.
  • Develop participants’ understanding of different budgeting approaches used in nonprofit organizations.
  • Strengthen practical skills in identifying and addressing common financial management challenges faced by NGOs.
  • Promote transparency, accountability, and sustainability in NGO financial practices through applied case studies and interactive discussion

Outcome of the workshop:

The workshop enhanced participants’ understanding of effective financial management practices for NGOs, particularly in relation to donor compliance, budgeting, and financial reporting. Participants gained practical insights into identifying and addressing common financial management challenges through case study discussions. The interactive nature of the workshop promoted knowledge sharing between staff, students, and practitioners, contributing to improved awareness of transparency, accountability, and sustainability in nonprofit financial management.
