Type of the workshop: International Workshop

Workshop in Brief The Interior Design Engineering Department at Tishk International University successfully organized an international workshop entitled “Anti-Gravity and Kinetic Balance as a Design Language” on June 8, 2026. The workshop was presented by Assoc. Prof. Sabah Shawkat, Structural Designer from the University of Fine Arts and Design, Bratislava, Slovakia. The workshop introduced participants to innovative design approaches that explore the concepts of anti-gravity, movement, and kinetic balance as creative tools in contemporary design. Through theoretical discussions and visual examples, students gained insight into how magnetic forces, structural equilibrium, and dynamic motion can be integrated into interior and architectural design to create interactive, visually engaging, and functionally innovative spaces. The session highlighted the relationship between physics, technology, and design, demonstrating how designers can challenge conventional spatial boundaries and develop environments that evoke movement, flexibility, and user interaction. Students were exposed to cutting-edge design concepts that broadened their understanding of contemporary design methodologies and encouraged creative experimentation. —

Workshop Objectives This workshop explores kinetic balance as a design approach in architecture and interior design, emphasizing the interaction of gravity, materials, and movement in shaping spatial experiences. Through handcrafted kinetic sculptures and structural experiments, participants investigate how balance, motion, and material behavior influence perception,

atmosphere, and spatial harmony. · Objectives:

· Understand the principles of kinetic balance and equilibrium in design.

· Explore the relationship between engineering concepts and artistic expression.

· Experiment with materials to study force, suspension, movement, and spatial interaction.

· Analyze the role of proportion, asymmetry, and motion in creating dynamic compositions.

· Apply kinetic balance concepts to architectural and interior design thinking.
