The workshop in brief:
World Diabetes Day is celebrated every November of
the year. It is a global awareness campaign focusing on
diabetes education, prevention, and management. The
event was created in 1991 by the International Diabetes
Federation (IDF) and the World Health Organization
(WHO). It highlights the escalating health threat posed
by diabetes, which affects millions of people worldwide.
The date honors Sir Frederick Banting, who codiscovered insulin in 1922, a breakthrough in diabetes
treatment. Each year, World Diabetes Day focus on a
specific theme, such as access to care, lifestyle changes,
or the importance of education, to enhance public
understanding of diabetes and encourage action
towards better health and support for those living with
the condition. This year’s theme does not differ much; it
is centered around reinforcing the commitment to
reducing the risk of diabetes and ensuring that
everyone diagnosed has access to comprehensive,
equitable, and high-quality care.
Specifically, the workshop achieved the following
objectives:
– Commiserated with diabetic patients across the
globe.
– Enlightened the university community and the public
on the importance of a healthy lifestyle for
sustainable well-being.
– Educated the students at all levels about experts’
engagement in academia.
– Provided free diagnostic tests to the university
community and the public.
