On February 4, 2026, the Nutrition and Dietetics Department at Tishk International University, in collaboration with Fit20 Gym, organized a specialized workshop to mark World Cancer Day. The event aimed to increase public awareness about cancer prevention, early diagnosis, genetic risk factors, and modern treatment approaches. Bringing together experts from nutrition, medical imaging, genetics, and clinical oncology, the workshop highlighted the importance of a multidisciplinary approach in combating cancer. The sessions were moderated by Assist. Prof. Dr. Jaafaru Sani and provided participants with up-to-date scientific knowledge on cancer care and prevention.

Objectives

· To raise awareness about cancer prevention and risk reduction strategies.

· To highlight the role of nutrition and medical nutrition therapy in supporting cancer patients and reducing treatment-related side effects.

· To introduce advancements in diagnostic imaging technologies, including MRI and CT scans, for accurate cancer detection and treatment planning.

· To increase understanding of hereditary cancers, genetic mutations, and the importance of genetic testing for personalized medicine.

· To provide updated information on current and emerging cancer treatment options.

· To promote interdisciplinary collaboration among healthcare professionals in improving cancer prevention, diagnosis, and patient care.

· To encourage community engagement and healthy lifestyle practices that contribute to better health outcomes and reduced cancer risk.

Outcome of the workshop:

1. Enhanced Awareness of Cancer Prevention: Participants gained a better understanding of modifiable risk factors and evidence-based strategies for reducing cancer risk through healthy lifestyle choices.

2. Improved Knowledge of Medical Nutrition Therapy: Attendees learned about the role of nutrition in cancer prevention and management, including dietary approaches to help alleviate chemotherapy-related side effects.

3. Increased Understanding of Modern Diagnostic Technologies: Participants were introduced to advancements in MRI and CT imaging and their importance in early detection, diagnosis, and treatment planning.

4. Greater Awareness of Genetic Risk Factors: The workshop improved participants’ knowledge of hereditary cancers, DNA repair mechanisms, and the role of genetic testing in identifying individuals at increased risk.

5. Updated Information on Cancer Treatment Approaches: Attendees received current information on available and emerging treatment options, contributing to a broader understanding of cancer care.
