Faculty: Engineering

Department:  Petroleum and Mining  Engineering

Type of the workshop: International Workshop

The workshop in brief:

  1. Examine risk and cost perceptions of carbon storage.
  2. Review successful global CCS case studies.
  3. Identify business models that enable CCS deployment.
  4. Assess regulations and technical standards for geological CO₂ storage.
  5. Develop site selection strategies to reduce risk and cost.
  6. Investigate operational challenges linked to CO₂ properties.
  7. Evaluate the impact of legacy wells on CCS risk and cost.
  8. Explore added value of CCS beyond direct revenue.
  9. Define key performance indicators for CO₂ storage projects.

Participants:

40 staff participants and engineers from outside TIU..

Date and time: 4.11.2025 /10:00-12:00 am

Place: Tishk International University, Hall 302, Ed. Building, TIU

Session topics:

10:15 am: Session 1: Examination of carbon storage risk and cost perception

11:00 am: Session 2: Operational challenges with unusual thermodynamic properties

11:45: Q&A and Discussion

Presenters names and affiliations:

Diego A. Vazquez Anzola (International Expert)

Outcome of the workshop:

Participants will gain a clearer understanding of perceived vs. actual carbon capture and storage CCS risks and costs, learn from successful global case studies and business models, and become familiar with key CO₂ storage regulations and technical standards. They will be able to evaluate and select suitable geological storage sites, recognize operational challenges associated with complex fluid behavior, and assess how legacy wells influence project risk and cost. Additionally, participants will understand how CCS projects create value beyond direct revenue and apply scalability and maturation metrics to evaluate project performance.
