Faculty: Engineering

Department:  Petroleum and Mining  Engineering

Type of the workshop: National Workshop

The workshop in brief:

The main objective of this workshop was to address the assessment of item suitability, reliability, and validity during questionnaire design using appropriate statistical methods. The workshop introduced the concept of questionnaires, highlighted their importance in research, and discussed their classification based on structure, question type, measurement scale, and purpose. It also covered different types of questionnaires and the use of Likert scales. In addition, the workshop presented statistical techniques for evaluating questionnaire items, including the Shapiro–Wilk test, Cronbach’s alpha, item–total correlation, KMO test, Bartlett’s test, factor analysis, Mann–Whitney test, and Kruskal–Wallis test. Finally, methods for effectively presenting questionnaire results using graphical tools such as stacked bars, diverging Likert charts, radar charts, and word clouds were demonstrated.

Participants:  16

Date and time: 25/1/2026 at 2 – 4 PM

Place: Tishk International University, 214 main building

Session topics:

Session 1: Basics, benefits, steps of questionnaire design, and different statistical methods.

Session 2: Examples on the tests with the objective of each test.

Presenters names and affiliations:

Prof. Dr. Tariq Hamakarim Kakahama

Outcome of the workshop:

By the end of this workshop, participants were able to design well-structured questionnaires, select appropriate question types and measurement scales, and evaluate item suitability, reliability, and validity using appropriate statistical tests. Participants also gained practical skills in applying non-parametric and multivariate analyses and in effectively visualizing questionnaire results using modern graphical techniques.
