The workshop in brief:

A National Workshop on the Role of Physiotherapy in Healthy Aging and Fall Prevention was successfully conducted on 20 October 2025 at Tishk International University, Sulaymaniyah, through collaboration between the Physiotherapy Department, Faculty of Applied Sciences, and the Physiotherapy Department at Tishk International University–Sulaymaniyah.

The workshop brought together academic staff, university personnel, physiotherapy alumni, and students from physiotherapy and other disciplines. It served as a significant academic and community-oriented initiative aimed at enhancing health awareness and promoting preventive care for the aging population in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.

 

Objectives:

  • To provide evidence-based knowledge on healthy aging and fall prevention
  • To highlight the role of physiotherapy in maintaining mobility, balance, and functional independence in older adults
  • To promote preventive healthcare practices and public health awareness
  • To strengthen academic collaboration and community engagement in addressing age-related health challenges

Total registered participants: 150

Expected attendees: 90

Participants included academic staff from both physiotherapy departments, TIU staff from Sulaymaniyah, physiotherapy alumni, physiotherapy students, and students from other disciplines.

The workshop enhanced public and academic awareness of healthy ageing and fall prevention, strengthened interdisciplinary and inter-campus collaboration, promoted evidence-based physiotherapy practice, and reinforced the role of physiotherapy in community health and preventive care.
